I'm not sure that I have posted too much about this topic when it comes to Andy and education. We have had some behavioral issues with him over the last year and so we have reached out to a professional organization to help us learn how to help him cope with the emotions that he is having. There have been a lot of changes for him over the last year and a half and we believe this has affected his attitude toward a lot of things because he's not sure how to express his frustration, anger, or whatever other emotions he is having. We debated before the school year started whether or not to homeschool or send him in. We chose the latter because we felt that he needed the socialization and to have the same experiences that other children have had. As the school year has progressed, so has some of his outbursts at school, but after a really bad one of Friday and speaking with the principal about what has happened, Jared and I both felt it was necessary to pull him out of school and for me to teach him at home for more control over him and help him through this tough time. We talked to him about this and what he felt about doing this and he was very excited, so much so that he didn't even want to go back today to tell everyone bye. His attitude about all of this has confirmed to Jared and I that this was the right decision. I am very excited about this new turn for our family and what all we will be doing and learning. We plan to make at least one field trip a week. This week's is to Mounds State Park to use magnifying glasses to look at nature (science) and to do a hike (P.E.). We are working on reading through Hooked on Phonics - Kindergarten level, doing 1st grade math, using Sid the Science Kid for the next 11 weeks to guide us through science, learning gospel principles through daily devotionals, and various other things to help us through social studies. He will have weekly specials such as library, P.E., music, art, and field trips. This is really exciting for us to do this and I hope it continues to be fun for us all and that Heavenly Father will continue to inspire me on what to teach and helps me to be patient, too.
